This work deals with the thermal ageing of rigid PVC tube stabilized with lead sulfate and used for water transportion under high pressure. Samples cut from the tubes were thermally treated at different temperatures in thermostated ovens for a duration of 3 months. Sampling from the oven has been done at regular intervals. Weight loss, coloration and mechanical properties (tensile test .....) were measured for each
ageing time.
At the temperatures 50 and 60°C, It has been found that these just metionned greatnesses vary only slightly. While, for higher temperatures (T= 80°C, 100 and 120°C) they evolve more significantly. The weight loss increases drastically, the mechanical properties drop suddenly and the coloration indicates that the material has structurally changed.
