Several hundred people march in an "Anti-racist and de-colonial march" organized by various associations including the Movement of the Indiginous of the Republic on May 8, 2008 in Paris. May 8, 1945, the day of the armistice to mark the end of WWII was the start of nationalist riots, in Setif and Guelma in what was French-colonized Algeria, that were violently repressed by French colonial authorities. According to Algerian historians, 45,000 people were killed though according to French sources 15,000 to 20,000 were killed.
