File picture taken on June 4, 2008 shows Algerian policemen securing the site of the blast carried by a suicide bomber in front of the gate of the republican guard's barracks in the eastern Algiers suburb of Bordj El Kiffan. Following weeks of deadly attacks, security measures have been reinforced in Algeria with the holy month of Ramadan approaching. Ramadan, when Muslims observe a month of fasting and spiritual reflection, falls this year in September. During this period, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset, observing one of the four basic duties of Islam. Safety measures have been taken in particular on public buildings which have often been targets of Islamic armed groups.
