Cereal crops, represented by cereals and fodder, remains the most practiced activity by farms in the region of El Gor. However, this activity, which is the main source of income in this region, appears handicapped by deficiencies that limit significantly its profitability. Hence this study we carried out whose the primary objective is to evaluate the production means of grain farming in this region to propose effective remedies to this problem. The surveys we conducted from 53 farms revealed that this practice is completely conduct in an extensive and it depends only of the low annual rainfall irregularly rushing in this arid area (< 300 mm/year ). Compared to the entire survey sample, all farms practice cereal for which average yield rarely exceeds 10 quintals/ha. 68 % of surveyed farms use manure, and only 8 % and 11 % respectively using fertilizers and pesticides. 42 % have a deficit in paid labor. Agricultural equipments needed to optimize the profitability of this practice are in an insufficient level particular those of treatment and seedlings that are almost absent. Thus, the use of varieties resistant to drought and the use of inputs especially manure that can substantially improve the water holding capacity of soils which are low in organic matter, could increase the profitability of grain farming in this arid area . Similarly, supports of the state granted to those poor farmers is a necessary condition to start again the cereal sector in this impoverished region and avoid the same time the rural exodus being widen condemning this important source of income.
