Abstract This contribution discusses three works by Belaid Ait Ali, a prolific, Kabyle, author (1909-1950) who is considered as a precursor in such literary genres as the novel and the short story. This literary production has preserved for posterity the vernacular form of tales and stories, in a word, traditional cultural expressions. Our concern is to bring to the fore the (auto) biographical elements inherent in the first two works which are Tafunast Igujilen (literally the Orphans’ Cow), Jeddi (Grandfather). As for the third text, Amezwaru unebdu (First day of summer), it is our opinion that it partakes of the autobiography genre as defined by Pillipe Lejeune. Our aim is twofold: in the first place we intend to identify the autobiographical data and show their impact on the first two texts. Secondly, we'll see how memories punctuate these stories and what is their impact on private and community life of the latter. These three texts, dominated by the influence of the family and that of the village or Kabyle society on the child, present the latent characteristics and / or overt autobiographical narratives.
