Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika (R) escorts his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro (L) on arrival at Hourai Boumediene International airport, on February 7, 2009 in Algiers. Castro arrived in Algiers for a three-day state visit, his first to the North African nation since he took over power from his ailing brother Fidel Castro in July 2006. Travelling from Angola, Castro was greeted at Algiers airport by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, whose office portrayed the visit as "testimony to the historic friendship and solidarity between Algeria and Cuba."
