It is my great pleasure and honour to welcome and introduce the Great Scholars in Modern Linguistics, the American philosopher, linguist, social commentator and political activist Professor Noam Chomsky, the linguist, researcher and education activist Professor Stephen Krashen to an Enlightening webinar on "Modern Linguistics ".

Noam Chomsky Known as the Father of Modern Linguistics, Noam Chomsky is also a Philosopher, Cognitive Scientist, Historian, Social Critic, and Political Activist. He is one of the most cited scholars in modern history and also one of the most influential public intellectuals in the world, having written more than 150 books on topics such as linguistics, war, politics, mass media and recently on the climate crisis. Chomsky is also a major figure in analytic philosophy and one of the founders of the field of cognitive science. He is Laureate Professor of Linguistics at the University of Arizona and Institute Professor Emeritus at MIT.
Stephen D. Krashen (born (1941-05-14) is professor emeritus at the University of Southern California, who moved from the linguistics department to the faculty of the School of Education in 1994. He is a linguist, educational researcher, and political activist.
Work
Stephen Krashen received a PhD. in Linguistics from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1972. Krashen has among papers (peer-reviewed and not) and books, more than 486 publications, contributing to the fields of second-language acquisition, bilingual education, and reading. He is known for introducing various hypotheses related to second-language acquisition, including the acquisition-learning hypothesis, the input hypothesis, the monitor hypothesis, the affective filter, and the natural order hypothesis. Most recently, Krashen promotes the use of free voluntary reading during second-language acquisition, which he says "is the most powerful tool we have in language education, first and second."
