This article highlights one of the social
and political institutions that formed
the state institutions of Ottoman rule.
It shows the regime 's bilaterality vis -
à - vis society. The Maschikhat (tribal
chief) was one of the pillars of Beylicat,
especially in rural areas, is
simultaneously a political and social
phenomenon of Algerian society
during the Ottoman period; This
institution still reflects the spirit and
the mental reality lived, in economic
and socio-cultural terms. It is thus that
the real practices of power and the
dimension of its control over the
domains are defined, as well as the
rank of the economic scale through the
administrative and political exercise
towards the state of the regency of
Algiers.
