The aim of this study is to investigate the appropriateness of the different translation procedures used in rendering the various semantic as well as stylistic meanings of "exception "words and style in the Holy Qur'an.
This aim was achieved through deciding, first, on the different meanings of exception in both Arabic and English languages. Then, some Qur'anic examples of each type of meaning were chosen, and their various translations were compared and contrasted with the original in order to decide on the appropriateness of each of the translation procedures used in rendering each type of meaning, whether semantic or stylistic.
This resulted in deducing a list of translation procedures, put in an order of preference, according to the extent of the appropriateness of each of them. Some untranslatable meanings were also spotted, and compensation strategies were suggested. It is hoped that the study would be useful to translation practitioners as well as theorists by contributing a block to the field of translation studies. Above all, it is hoped that the study would be useful in correcting the translations of the holy Qur'an.
