The aim of this study is to identify the drug
addicts’s coping strategies with stressful events.
The study was conducted on a sample of 100
men with an average age of 24.78 year old.
Those are in Blida rehabilitation institution.
In order to achieve hypotheses of study, two
scales have been applied, namely, the Lazarus
and Folkman « Ways of coping check- list »
and the Skinner « Drug Abuse Screening Test ».
Results showed that addict is confronted with
various stressful events, but he shows low score
of problem-focused coping strategies, and high
score of emotion-focused coping strategies
mainly, escape/ avoidance and distancing. As
shown, the score of the strategy “seeking social
support” is also low. Therefore the addict finds
it difficult to cope with the stressful life events.
