The Ottoman Documentation in the archives of the Arab
countries or in the Ottoman archive in Turkey played a
major role in the historical Arab studies during the Ottoman
era, be it the studies concerning the history of the Ottoman
state itself, or the Arab states in particular during the period
of Ottoman governance. These archives are considered as
the raw material on which the Arab researcher bases his
historical studies. These historical Arab studies concerning
the Ottoman history have been developed significantly
during the last few decades. Arab researchers are beginning
to become more and more interested in that by attention
after showing reluctance to study this history. But, what
one can notice about these historical Arab studies is the
predominance of the local aspect on them. That is to say,
they specialized, on the one hand, in the history of the Arab
country without any of the other subjects related to the
Ottoman history, and relied, on the other hand, mainly on
the local archival documents existing in the Arab country.
That might be the result of the obstacles faced by the Arab
researcher when treating the ottoman archives in Turkey, as
far as language question and research tools are concerned.
